“Embracing the moment”

08162020

2020 has been quite the roller coaster year… and I have decided to change quite a few things in my (online) life, including the content I want to share on this website. It has been very difficult to write long reflective pieces lately. So, I’d like to simply share some thought(s) from my daily devotions or reading that provide a focus or something to reflect on for the week.

“This is real life. This is what we have been—and should have been—training for. Marcus Aurelius said, ‘No role is so well-suited to philosophy as the one you happen to be in right now,’ as Rome’s empire ground to a halt and the plague descended upon the city. ‘Life is warfare and a journey far from home,’ he continued as he battled invaders at the frontier for years on end. We are living through history. This is not a drill. It is time to put on our big girl/boy pants and get serious. Get to work.  It is time to embody the philosophy we have talked about. It’s time to muster the critical virtues of courage, temperance, justice, and wisdom.  It will not be easy, but it is what is in front of us.” – The Daily Stoic

This week, I will embrace this moment in history we are fortunate enough to live through. Yes, fortunate to live through the COVID pandemic (thus far), social movements and riots, political unrest, severe weather patterns, and yes, even my (personal) losses.
